Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana disclosed Sunday that the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) will apologize to the personalities it wrongly tagged as captured and slain communist rebels in a post uploaded by the military in its Facebook account and was shared by some of its units.

The social media post was widely condemned in social media and became an object of ridicule by netizens since the purported list of University of the Philippines students captured and killed in military operations include former government officials, lawyers, and even a dead multi-awarded director.

“The AFP will apologize. What reason will they give? I don’t know. It’s an unpardonable gaffe,” said Lorenzana. The AFP Facebook post was already taken down but some netizens made screenshots of it, and eventually became the subject of discussions in social media.

Lacson to AFP: Censure those responsible in UP red-tagging gaffe“It takes a lot of humility for SND Lorenzana to publicly apologize for the AFP’s blunder. That said, the AFP leadership must see to it that the ones directly responsible for such an error are censured accordingly,' Lacson said. Not only for UP. The other educational institutions mentioned should also be included. You compensate those you maligned. Apology is cheap especially if you have an institution which normalizes peddling of false information. AFP reaction....

Palace: AFP should be ‘more prudent’ in putting names in ‘NPA list’Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque suggested that the Armed Forces of the Philippines should be 'more prudent' so that Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana wouldn't need to apologize for their 'unpardonable' blunders. Read: Hindi nya ba magawang mag double check✌️😒. Why is he isolating/protecting Malacañang from AFP blunders when in fact the president is their commander-in-chief More than being prudent, AFP should do intensive and extensive research!!!
