The Alliance of Concerned Teachers Philippines issued this statement amid complaints of “measly and inaccessible” communication expense reimbursement and the response of the Department of Education citing lack of funds and legal basis for grant of higher internet allowance.
“The lack of funding and legal basis are old and tired reasons,” said ACT Secretary-General Raymond Basilio. “Had the Duterte government given enough importance to education amid the pandemic, these should have been already resolved by now,” he added. Basilio noted that the “ball is now in the hands” of the President to fulfill the government’s overdue obligation to teachers and the rest of the education sector by ordering the immediate release of internet allowance for them.
The President, Basilio said, has a number of options to provide legal basis for the grant of internet allowance to teachers – such as through issuing an administrative order as how the P10,000 service recognition pay was granted to all government employees, or through certifying as urgent ACT Teachers Partylist’s House Bill 7034 for the grant of P1,500 internet allowance for teachers.
Kayo ang nasa congresso, nagbigay ba kayo ng budget for teachers’ internet allowance? Mukhang wala.
