MANILA - Some 7,500 repatriated Filipino migrant workers have gone home to their respective provinces this week, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration said Wednesday.
President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday gave government agencies a week to bring some 24,000 OFWs to their home provinces. "We're looking forward sa pagdagdag ngayon ng mga buses at yung mga sea transport,'" OWWA Administrator Hans Cacdac said in a virtual press briefing."Since the presidential directive, it's the first time for the shipping vessels to spring into action," he said.
The Department of the Interior and Local government had assured local government units that the returning OFWs underwent quarantine and have health certificates to prove that they are clear of the virus. The Philippines has repatriated some 27,000 migrant workers, and around 43,000 others are expected to follow until June, officials earlier said.
