Ex-Tingog party-list official is new presidential assistant for Visayas

TACLOBAN CITY — A former official of the Tingog party-list group took his oath as the new presidential assistant for the Visayas.

Businessman and Cebu-based Terence Calatrava took his oath as President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s representative in the Visayas before Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin at the Malacañan Palace on Tuesday, Nov. 6.

Calatrava, 45, who has a rank of an undersecretary, was named to his post by President Marcos on Nov. 8, 2022.

Before his appointment, Calatrava served as the regional chairman of the Tingog party-list in Central Visayas since 2021.

Tingog is a party-list group based in Eastern Visayas founded by Leyte congressman and House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez.

The party-list is represented in the House of Representatives by Yedda Romualdez, the wife of the Speaker, and Jude Acidre.

As a presidential assistant, Calatrava will represent the President in the three Visayan regions and help coordinate with the different government agencies to ensure the effective and prompt delivery of services among local governments.

Calatrava will hold office in Cebu, being the center of the Visayas.
