The fatalities were identified as Johaina Salim, Ustadz Elme Nurodin, and Jomar Alamanza Sakir. Their bodies were found along the stretch of Rio Grande River during the search and rescue operation.
The collision, according to the agency, involved motorbanca “Zhul-Leah,” which was skippered by Saripudin Tato and carrying six passengers, and an unnamed motorboat that was manned by Khentin Alonto Munto and loaded with two passengers. Investigation showed that the two vessels collided into each other while transiting the river on the night of August 24. A concerned citizen reported the incident to the authorities, who later responded to the scene.
One passenger identified as Sidik Ismael and Tato, the skipper of motorbanca Zhul-Leah, remained missing as of Monday, the Coast Guard said. The two other passengers of the boat were already rescued.Meanwhile, Coast Guard Station Cotabato advised the residents and motorbanca operators to be on the lookout for possible sightings of the missing passengers and to inform the nearest Coast Guard station for possible leads.
