8 games to look forward to in March 2021

CRASH 4. Crash returns with next-gen upgrades on the PS5 and Xbox Series S/X

Activision

'Yakuza: Like a Dragon' on the PS5, 'Monster Hunter: Rise' on the Switch, and 'Evil Genius 2: World Domination' are among the titles you can look forward to this March

We’re now 3 months into 2021, and it seems like game releases are slowly starting to pick-up. While it’s not the busiest month by a stretch, there are more than a handful of titles on different platforms that you might want to check out.

So without further ado, here are some of the biggest releases scheduled for March 2021:

Yakuza: Like a Dragon (PS5)

Sega

The Yakuza franchise is famous for 3 things: its gripping crime drama story; its rich open world filled with side activities; and its over-the-top combat.

The latest entry in the series, Yakuza: Like A Dragon, retains all of these, but puts a fresh spin on the longstanding gameplay formula. Instead of a brawler, the game opts for a turn-based RPG combat system, similar to the likes of Persona 5 and the original Final Fantasy VII. It also replaces series protagonist Kazuma Kiryu with Ichiban Kasuga, a new character who’s got his own personal vendetta against the Yakuza.

The game was a limited time exclusive for the Xbox Series X/S, but is finally launching on the PS5 on March 2. It’s also out now on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

Apex Legends (Switch)

EA

Respawn Entertainment’s popular battle-royale, first-person shooter, Apex Legends, is finally hitting the Nintendo Switch. The game features the newest seasonal content and cross-platform play, letting you duke it out with Legends from other consoles.

It comes out on March 9.

Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time (PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch, PC)

Activision

Another port hitting the Switch, PC, and next-gen consoles is Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, the long-awaited sequel to the PlayStation-era Crash trilogy.

The game, which first launched on the PS4 and Xbox One late last year, is getting a next-gen upgrade on PS5 and Xbox Series X, featuring faster loading times and 4K visuals at 60 frames per second.

If you already own the game on PS4 and Xbox One, you’re entitled to the upgrade for no additional cost. Plus, you can also transfer your existing save file and continue your adventure from where you left off.

The game releases on March 12.

Stubbs the Zombie: Rebel Without a Pulse (PS4, Switch, Xbox One, PC)

Aspyr

Most zombie games typically have you playing as a survivor, fighting and shooting your way through hordes of the undead. In Stubbs the Zombie: Rebel Without a Pulse, however, you play as the titular character as takes his revenge on the living.

This is a remaster of the cult classic title, which first hit PC and the original Xbox back in 2005. How well does it hold up? Well, we’ll find out when the game launches on March 16 for the PS4, Switch, Xbox One, and PC. The game will also be playable on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S via backwards compatibility.

It Takes Two (PS4, Xbox One, PC)

EA

Developer Hazelight Studios, the people behind 2018’s A Way Out, is back with another co-op adventure with It Takes Two. This EA Originals title has you play as either Cody or May, two humans who have been transformed into dolls.

You’ll be playing with a friend to get their regular bodies back as you traverse trippy landscapes and solve intricate puzzles. Similar to A Way Out, the game gives you a Friend Pass, which lets you play with a partner for free.

It Takes Two releases on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on March 26.

Monster Hunter: Rise (Switch)

Capcom

One of the Switch’s major releases this year, Monster Hunter: Rise capitalizes on the success of 2018’s Monster Hunter: World by taking the hack-and-slash action to Nintendo’s handheld console.

The game borrows the streamlined combat and open world system of World and introduces a couple of new features, including a new companion, the Palamute, and a grappling hook tool, called the Wirebug. You can also expect to encounter a bunch of new monsters, expanding the growing wildlife compendium of this popular Capcom franchise.

Monster Hunter: Rise launches on the Switch on March 26.

Evil Genius 2: World Domination (PC)

Rebellion Developments

Ever wanted to play as the villain in a Bond-esque spy thriller? You’re in luck because Evil Genius 2: World Domination, the sequel to the 2004 title of the same name, lets you live out those fantasies in a base-building, real-time strategy game.

In this game, your objective is to terrorize the world by building and deploying a weapon of mass destruction. To do that, you have to manage minions, build rooms that support your operations, and set-up traps to kill spies who infiltrate your base, all while maintaining the secrecy of your villainous plan.

Evil Genius 2: World Domination hits PC on March 30.

Kena: Bridge of Spirits (PS4, PS5, PC)

Ember Lab

Kena: Bridge of Spirits is a story-driven, action adventure title that touts rich exploration and fast-paced combat. However, what caught most people’s attention about the game when it was first revealed in one of last year’s PS5 showcases are the colorful and Pixar-like visuals, which appear to take full advantage of the next-gen hardware.

Not much else has been revealed about the game since that time and many are not too confident that it’ll be coming out in its original March release window. But the game has yet to be officially delayed or cancelled, so we’re keeping it on this list, just in case there are any surprise announcements. – Rappler.com
