The Taguig City government has released an additional P14 million coronavirus disease (COVID-19) aid to 28 barangays.
In a Zoom meeting with barangay captains on Monday (Sept. 28), Mayor Lino Cayetano announced that the second tranche of P500,000 COVID-AID for each barangay is now available.
The city government released the first tranche of P500,000 to each barangay in March. Each barangay has P1 million COVID-19 fund for a total of P28 million for all barangays. Ten percent of the P500,000 will go to the Sangguniang Kabataan in each barangay.
Cayetano said the COVID-AID fund can be used to purchase personal protective equipment (PPE), disinfection equipment, medicines and vitamins, food supplies, medical equipment and other supplies, and other COVID-19 related procurement.
He thanked the barangay captains for their work in helping curb the spread of COVID-19 and attributed the city’s success in slowing down the transmission of the disease to close cooperation of the city government, city council and the barangays.
As of Sept. 26, Taguig has 7,332 confirmed COVID-19 cases including 6,875 recoveries and 56 deaths, leaving 301 active cases. Taguig has the lowest number of active cases and lowest number of COVID-19 related deaths in the National Capital Region.
The Taguig City government has conducted 51,534 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests through its SMART testing program that includes drive-thru testing and testing done by health centers and the City Epidemiology Disease and Surveillance Unit (CEDSU).
Meanwhile, the Taguig Safe City Task Force has released the guidelines for the observance of All Saints’ and All Souls’ Day.
Starting Oct. 1, the number of visitors in cemeteries and memorial parks will be limited to 30 percent of the burial ground’s capacity.
Visitors in public cemeteries will be allowed depending on the first letter of the last name of their deceased loved ones. Those with first letters A to M will be allowed from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. and those with letters N to Z will be allowed from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Visitors can stay up to two hours at most.
All public and private cemeteries, and memorial parks nationwide, including columbaria will be closed from Oct. 29 to Nov. 4 but burial and cremation services will continue.
