Yoruba Ronu Leadership Forum has commended President Muhammadu Buhari administration’s decision to further delay resumption of schools due to coronavirus.
Akin Malaolu, the president, in a statement on Tuesday, said the continued closure was to safeguard Nigerian students.again, a decision that has affected the conduct of the 2020 for West African School Certificate Examination .He stressed that the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 had shown sensitivity to public opinion.
The body noted that there was no way anyone could have completed syllabuses earmarked for the coming examinations.“Most Students in Senior Secondary School and Junior Secondary School will record mass failure if the country go ahead with the examination without completing the syllabuses appropriately,” Malaolu said.
He also urged the government to consider an interest-free loan to private school administrators and teachers to cushion the effect of COVID-19 on their daily lives. Malaolu appealed to President Buhari to do “a little by a way of giving a little succour to schools, especially private schools who are in dire straits in paying salary”.“We cannot continue to keep our teachers going about with unpaid salaries,” the statement added.
