A professor of African History, Peace and Conflict Studies, Isaac Albert, says Nigeria has become the destination for illegal arms in the sub-region because of governance deficit and the huge market created for such weapons by the prevailing multifaceted crises bedevilling the country.
The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari , had said on different occasions that armed guards recruited by the late Gaddafi and trained to only shoot and kill had been responsible for the insecurity in Nigeria. He repeatedly said they were also responsible for the influx of arms into the country.
“Gaddafi’s weapons came into Nigeria not more than one or two years after his death. What is true is that some of the arms come in through Libya because since Gaddafi’s death, terrorist organisations bring all kinds of arms into Libya. They are not Gaddafi’s weapons.
The only reason is the fact that we are leaderless!!
