Some state governors on Wednesday lamented the poor state of the economy and low Internally Generated Revenue, saying these might negatively affect implementation of the new minimum wage in most states of the federation.

Ugwuanyi, who spoke during the 2019 May Day celebration in the state, said his administration was committed to workers’ welfare and had made salary payment his top priority. In his address at the celebration of the 2019 Workers’ Day in Makurdi, Ortom said he would soon be meeting with labour on the implementation of the new minimum wage.

Ishaku’s speech, which was read by the Deputy Governor, Haruna Manu, was silent on the issue of minimum wage, but promised to commence payment of the backlog of pension and gratuities of retired civil servants. The NLC and the Trade Union Congress at the celebration in Ado Ekiti, the state capital, lauded Fayemi for the prompt payment of salaries and payment of car and housing loans since he assumed office in October last year. But the outgoing Bauchi State Governor, Mohammed Abubabakar, said the state government would set up a committee to make recommendations on the new minimum wage.

The state Chairman of the TUC, Emmanuel Ogundiran and his NLC counterpart, Bayo Titilola-Sodo, called on the government to be prepared to fulfill its side of the bargain on the new minimum wage as soon as talks were concluded. Makinde had told journalists in Abuja after the two-day orientation for returning and newly-elected governors that, “Personally, I believe that individual states should have been allowed to negotiate this because conditions of living in Lagos are obviously not the same as living in Ibadan.

When the economy is weak, life styles should change to enable payment of minimum wage. Wages are first line charges. Humanity us first among among all sane governments

I said it before and I will say it again this govt is yahoo yahoo government.

You governors that lack creativity and innovation can pay the 30K if only you can reduce the extravagant way of governance and heartless embezzlement in your various states!

Ohhh the economy is now weak ...I tot the Vp and finance minister said the economy was back on track ....only God will save us from APC lies

Goats and selfish people. But it wouldn't hinder ur silly and huge God forsaking allowances. God's judgement will take you(Nigeria politicians) to eternal damnation in hell.

No I disagree, what is going on is that the Emperors Governors does not intend to stop the wasteful governance NaijaNeedsNewConstitution

What about your salaries?

Na lie woo! Una no need excuse for this one

If its wages for the workers, you will hear so many stories, if it's for pension for governor, security vote looting through contracts and allowance, their will be money, hell fire Governors

As well as allowances for political office holders

If they cut the excesses why not

See this mad people! Who made the economy weak These idiots mbuhari ProfOsibanjo

Don't mind most of them, all they're after is power no vision for their state they govern. Breastfeeding governors depend on FG all the times

You have the guts to tell us that

Weak economy and low IGR are as a result of bad implementation of government policies and diversion of public funds. Resign if you can't pay the new minimum wage

Thunder 🔥 u diaaaa

Hmm this is Nigeria to hell with some of the Nigerian governors

The governors are indirectly telling the people they can’t afford the new minimum wage. It won’t augur well with the workers because they have already raised their hopes. Promise is a debt. The financial recklessness of legislators should be cut in order to pay d new minimum wage

You Governors are high in gum. IS IT MY FATHER THAT WEAKEN THE ECONOMY? NONSENSE

You can’t pay 30k but NASS are taking away over 250billion Naira for their allowances nd shits.Come Nigeria’s are u people not the dumbest humans on earth. All u fools better stop supporting APC nd PDP if u are thinking like a normal human being.Change must come by fire by force.

So it will not weak your security votes Your extravagant ,ostentatious expeditions

What sort of careless governors do we have in Nigeria. All of a sudden low IGR will affect minimum wage implementation while many of your relations are lavishly spending and acquiring properties.

Stupid morons! Give me the poorest state in the country and in two years i ll pay £9/hr as minimum wage. If you ve common sense and are innovative you can raise your state’s IGR within two years and even be sending money to the federal govt instead of relying on FG’s allocations

Weak what? But it won't hinder senators' allowance. What a rotten country!

Osinbajo Asks Governors To Boost IGR To Reduce PovertyOsinbajo Asks Governors To Boost IGR To Reduce Poverty. How is Dangote, an individual getting things done, and the state government, a collection of individuals are failing to get things done? Is there something structurally wrong,or the state/government is designed as a looting bin? When they say ' boost IGR'. What they are really saying is ' Flog the people harder' while the sensible thing to do is to create opportunities for people to make more so they can pay more. Its called' wealth creation'. Thats the POTUS way people. A good call; The FG of Nigeria should empower the state to harness resources in other to boost IGR and reduce poverty and in doing so there has to be an amendment in the constitution to give states autonomous power to harness resources then the statement could be feasible.
