Eleven days after a Kano State High Court presided over by Justice Usman Naabba sentenced to death by hanging the proprietor of Noble Kids College, 38-year-old Abdulmalik Tanko, alongside two others for kidnapping and killing of five-year-old pupil, Hanifa, the Abubakars were optimistic that the law would take its course.

He added that awaiting the assent of the governor on the death warrant was akin to delayed justice, noting that the convict could be pardoned by a new administration if the execution was delayed.

“Hanifa’s death is different from the normal one and we had never witnessed such before. It was terrible. The media also played a major role in the case too.”Commenting on the development, a lawyer, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, stated that on death row could be an opportunity for a convict, who had initially been condemned to death by the court, to live again.

Adegboruwa while explaining that the convict could also appeal the judgement, said, “The challenge is that after the court has sentenced the convict to death either by hanging or firing squad, the execution of the judgment belongs to the state governor because the judges cannot go on to carry out the judgment themselves.

Also, another legal practitioner, Sopuruchukwu Uzeigwu, said on death row could also be a slow justice.
