.Some Congressmen in the United State of America have demanded that Algeria should be sanctioned for trading arms with Russia.
This was disclosed in a letter signed by 27 members of US Congress stating that Algeria should be sanctioned over a multi-billion dollar arms deal the North African country reportedly signed with Russia in 2021. The congress members say Algeria’s purchase of arms from Russia – which culminated in a reported $7 billion deal in 2021 – could be considered such a transaction.
Earlier this month, US Senator Marco Rubio also sent a letter to Blinken to call for sanctions on Algeria for buying Russian weapons.
