German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas on Wednesday criticised UEFA's decision to block plans to light Munich's Allianz Arena stadium in rainbow colours for Germany's Euro 2020 match against Hungary.

German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas waits for the opening of the weekly cabinet meeting on June 16, 2021 at the Chancellery in Berlin.

“It’s about people, about fairness, about tolerance. That’s why @UEFA is sending the wrong signal,” he said. But UEFA refused the request, insisting it must remain a “politically and religiously neutral organisation”. After UEFA’s refusal, Munich Mayor Dieter Reiter announced plans to decorate other city landmarks in rainbow colours.
