This is to avoid a repeat of controversy trailing the Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress, APC, for the 2023 general elections,
Adeyemi, who is the lawmaker representing Kogi West Senatorial District and sponsor of the bill, explained that Section 84 of the Electoral Act would be amended by inserting a new subsection that “No political party shall nominate candidates of the same religion as Presidential candidate and Vice Presidential candidate after thisAccording to the him,the controversy which the Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket of the APC has generated in the polity, necessitated the move .
“When this is accommodated, it will serve as a guide against any oversight such as this in the future as further occurrences will be deemed as silent policy which is capable of bringing down the fabrics of the nation,” he said.
What national assembly trying to do is undemocratic let any competent and confidence individuals have the tickets without considering their religion, ethnicity and gender
How did we manage to come to this pass? Nigeria has a secular constitution. How and when did we promote religion to the forefront for it to become a factor in elections?!!?
Another Problem Coming (APC).
It's the right thing to do, especially the core north will always presenting Muslim/ Muslim ticket whenever the president is a Muslim from the south, but the moment it's in Nigeria constitution, those radical and fanatics from the core north won't have any other options.
Good move
I hope they are not contemplating putting up a legislation to that effect. The constitution has guaranteed freedom of worship or faith. Unless they want to mean that one loses the right if he/she is running for a presidential or running mate candidate.
For a country that has no official religion?! And who will speak or protect the interests of the traditional religion worshippers? So many lacuna
They just want to change it, is the plan of APC, they have see the threat, and feel they may lose the election
This is a joke.
