Sixty-two-year-old Mrs Roseline Tariuwa has six children, including Kingsley. She tells SAMPSON ITODE about the effect her son’s arrest has had on herSince January 5, when my son was arrested, I have been really worried because I am the kind of mother that always calls her children on the phone and reminds them not to stay out late. And since the night he was arrested, when I called his phone and he didn’t pick up, The following day, my daughter and my last son told me that my son was arrested.
Since the arrest of Kingsley, we have not rested. We have gone to several police stations looking for him but we have not found him or known his whereabouts. We want to know where he is being kept so we can visit him and know how he is and also know what offence he committed. This situation gives me sleepless nights. Most of the time, when I have food on my table to eat, tears drive my appetite away. For a mother to have such a grownup son that suddenly goes missing is sad.
We tried to find shelter for ourselves in a corner outside the station, but another officer drove us away, saying we would be called in when the commander arrived. Another one told us that we were supposed to have the phone number of the commander and call him before seeing him. It was while we were waiting outside that my son called his sister, directing her to call the radio room again and inform them that they had denied us access to see the SARS commander.
