Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has asked the Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, to seek counsel before speaking on the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB).

In a statement issued yesterday in Abuja, HURIWA described Shehu’s comments on IPOB as calculated hate speeches against the detained leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

The statement reads: “The SSA, Media, to the President, Garba Shehu, has gained notoriety as a sympathiser of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria , but has always accused IPOB of all kinds of atrocities. However, he has failed to show a legal evidence linking the banned IPOB to any act of terrorism, since Buhari was wrongly advised by haters of political pluralism to classify IPOB as a terrorist organisation, even when the sane group is recognised in civilised democracies.

IN the same vein, the youth wing of Ohanaeze Ndigbo has commended the South East caucus in the National Assembly for their decision to take up Kanu’s matter. He noted that in a communiqué after its meeting in Abuja, on Wednesday, the caucus said it would champion a political solution to the problem.
