Security has been beefed up at the headquarters of the Niger Delta Development Commission in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, over a planned

Police patrol vans, as well as police officers, were seen on Tuesday around the office of the NDDC in an apparent bid to forestall the breakdown of law and order.

This is coming two weeks after a youth group, known as the South South Youth Initiative, threatened to stage a protest at the NDDC headquarters to drive home their demands.In a statement by the president of the group, Saviour Imeaba, the youths had threatened to “occupy the headquarters of NDDC” at the expiration of their two weeks ultimatum if the Federal Government fails to address their demands.
