The Sarkin Ban Kano, who was the oldest kingmaker, as well as the first Commissioner of Education in Kano, Alhaji Mukhtar Adnan, has died at the age of 95.
Adnan, who was the District Head of Dambatta, died in the early hours of Friday after a brief illness, according to family sources. A deposed Emir of Kano, Sir Muhammadu Sanusi, appointed Mukhtar Adnan as Sarkin Bai in 1954 to succeed his father.He attended Dambatta Elementary School, Kano Middle School and Zaria Clerical School.
He started his career in the Kano Native Authority, where he served in various capacities before his elevation to the position of Sarkin Bai. Adnan was the longest-serving member of the Kano Emirate Council, since the establishment of the Emirate in the 19th century.
