Rice Importation Must Be Discouraged In Nigeria, Says Jigawa Governor

Jigawa State Governor, Badaru Abubakar, with the Governor of Hunan Province of China, Mr Oufang Huang, and others at the Government House in Dutse on October 9, 2019.Jigawa State Governor, Badaru Abubakar, has stressed the need to discourage the importation of rice in the country.

The governor disclosed that the state government has completed plans to begin local production of farming implements and tools to boost rice production in the state. As a leading producer of quality sesame in Africa, he said Jigawa would soon commence the exportation of the oil-rich seed to the tune of 30,000 tonnes to Huanan Province for extraction.

He was confident that Jigawa would be the leading rice producer in the country in the next five years.

Discouraged, yes, by bringing down the cost of local production and processing, making accessible high yielding varieties, supporting increased compliance with global food safety and quality standards. Including significant improvements in rural to market infrastructure..

More reason Govt has to step up their efforts in the production of Rice in this country! Cos buy a bag of rice at the rate of 20k is unacceptable for we the masses!

You're eating Uncle Ben's rice and telling people to eat stinking, stony and very cost Nigerian rice... Tell that to the people of your state. man with 3 appointed wives in his cabinet

its just so unfortunate that the government of Nigeria make it look as if they don't know what d problem is but instead dey leave the solution and create more problems 4 d poor masses. Soon God's wrath will fall on dis country and destroy all dose making life difficult 4 d poor

Have you eaten the local rice of recent? It's full of sand and stones. If you have the capacity to provide rice for Nigeria populist, why not make it match what we have been used to. Perfect what you have before you ban what comes to you. We are not animals. We deserve the best

And DAT is d reason for making it so expensive... Shioor

Do dese people av human feelings at all? What's capacity of local rice productn in Nigeria? Have we reached rice sufficiency level in d country even wit 'Kano rice'? Rice is 30k/bag in Akure even in October. Clearly dis regime enjoys d poverty level in d country. So sad!

Fools

Because his state can feed a nation?

All foreign medical trips and german cars must be discouraged as well.... It must cut across everywhere... So Mr gov. Pls buy made in Nigeria cars nd visit General hospital Duste for your health care... Thanks...

Please how much is bag of rice ? In Lagos today it is 23 thousand naira !!! 😭

and approval SA to three wives!

is the governor just getting around to reading the memo from the federal government?😀

Good to discourage it but the process should have human face. Not to do it at the detriment of Nigerians.

our politicians eating the local rice?

So as generator importation. 🙄🙄

Very wrong orientation. 'Local rice production should be invested in and encouraged' should be the focus. All you're doing is putting more strain on a barely functioning economy.

And the local rice is selling for 20k
