Presidency tackles Obasanjo, asks ex-president to explain absence at Democracy Day celebration

The presidency has said that former President Olusegun Obasanjo was officially invited to attend the June 12 commemoration and the presidential inauguration in Abuja, contrary to claims circulated in the media.

The two-time president was also not present at the inaugural June 12 Democracy Day commemorations in Abuja, heightening speculations that the relationship between him and the incumbent president might have worsened. “The former President did not get the invitation. I did not say that he was not invited but he did not get the invitation to attend the event,” Mr Akinyemi said in a June 16 report by the Vanguard Newspaper.

He said since Mr Obasanjo’s claim was first made, elements in the polity that had deliberately and consistently been trying to lead the country toward polarization had cashed in on it, “throwing all manner of rubbish at the Buhari Presidency.”

It seems like there are no serious things to do at ASO ROCK again except frivolous things and unnecessary criticism

That OBJ did not attend the inauguration and democracy day celebrations should never be an issue that should concern or become a source for worry because if OBJ should be subjected to an answer, then PMB who has been notorious for absenting himself to most States functions than

Super story lol.focus on insecurity and economy

Deflecting attention from the main issues like electoral fraud, poverty, insecurity, excessive borrowing with little or nothing to show for it, calling a problem different names, delays in appointments, increase in unemployment, decay in education, just to name a few.

Ebora owu is tormenting them!

He don't want to associate himself with stupidity, foolishness and failure..... Hope I have answered on his behalf

Like it will get them anywhere. Please tackle the security chiefs instead, cos people are dying

Triviality

This right here is funny.😂

They think baba is a joke..

They should leave baba alone abi dey want him to write another letter ni?

How many presidential inauguration does buhari attend

OBJ being asked why he shunned Democratic day June 12 celebration is leaving serious issued and chasing shadows ! By now Presidency should be more concerned about actions towards curbing inexplicable lawlessness and criminality being perpetuated by herdsmen all over the Country !

Bullshit, he's a man and he decides what to do, which stupid presidency. Who's In Follow for follow. 👆👆 Sharp sharp

I guess Mr President is dreaming and still in dream land 😳🤪😂😳😂🕺

BashirAhmaad They are not serious.

What audacity?

OBJ hurdles the tackle, He doesn’t have to explain anything to Anyone

If he explains now, you will start carrying. I think it had to do with the level of slow development in the nation. Most state governors ain't doing well. Even at the center, there is negligence of basic functions of a democratic government.

Na by force?

He doesn't owe us any explanations. It's his choice not to attend. It's not by force

Whenever you people bring diversion to the TL, we'll remind you of the real issues we care about.

BashirAhmaad Between people being killed by bandits, extremists & herdsmen as well as military installations being overrun by terrorist with many soldiers loosing their lives & Obasanjo missing Buhari’s inauguration Guess which is a more important to Mr Bashir garshehu & Co at asorock?

Hisssssssss

This administration is so useless abeg! How is obj’s absent to inauguration a national issue?

They should go and arrest him then. 😁😂🤣

People are dying everyday, out of 36 states more than half it’s not safe... see what the presidency is concerned about? misplaced priority!!!

Buhari need to explain to Nigerians why he has not being attending state event before coming back as elected president in 2015....

Presidency should tell Nigerians why the so called defeated bokoharam are still taking over military base, bokoharam(branded bandits) taking over northeast and northwestern states, kidnappings everywhere. I also shunned the June 12 celebration.

I don’t think right now at the situation the country is the presidency should be discussing such issues we have many important things to discuss and solve pls

Explain what precisely? Who explains the killings?

Obasanjo is no more relevant in Nigerian politics now, so we don't even need his present new BUHARI, All we need from him is our 16billions dollars, NEPA money

This is just to divert attention from the economic and security challenges which they have no clue on how to solve. They no longer blame GEJ, now they want to push to Baba obj.

is time we Nigerians focus on somthng better than all this. Focus on hw to make the country a better place not on hw to make the country a holiday place. We really need to think of better things not things like why OBJ didn't come for this or that cus we are backward already. 😔

Insignificant individuals taking over our country. You see how they're pursuing shadow? What has that got to do with average Nigerian who does not eat 2 times a day? How can we get rid of this mafia network in Nigeria?

The disrespect.

To explain absence? Is that a joke or what?

The wicked run when no one is chasing them. They are finding it difficult to live with the heavy guilt in their HEARTS.

Presidency is very empty.

Baseless issue.

More of things like this happen as integrity losses its meaning. Obasanjo was with the public on June 12.

The right person to be Queried is Buhari. OBJ has ATTENDED more than 90% of State functions between when he left power and today. Buhari was ABSENT in more than 98% of State functions between 1999 -2015 Now, who owes Nigeria EXPLANATION

Na by Force? Which kine Brainless People be dis

Lazy people, read and find out what leads that question.

How will anyone government e'en make this an issue... What level of cluelessness is this?

We had a naming ceremony that was more important.......

Non-issue

These guys are in sefia pains🙄

So it pain them.hahhahha!!!!! You never see something

Is it a must?

These presidency workers are jobless honestly

Abeg free the guy

Look at what is priority to this backward government
