A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Nigerian Police Force to pay N15m fine to seven suspected members of Boko Haram over their unlawful detention for three years without trial.

The suspects who were said to have been arrested inside a Maiduguri market were allegedly dumped at the detention facility of the Special Anti-Robbery in Abuja. The applicants are Ajiri Dungus, Gudja Giddah, Adam Mohammed, Wardi Dungus, Fanami Mustapha, Mohammed Abba and Makinka Dungus.Justice M. O. Olajuwon, in a judgment on their fundamental human rights enforcement suit, held that the detention of the detainees for three years without trial contravened the provisions of the 1999 constitution on human rights.

The Judge said the police acted in bad faith in keeping the detainees beyond the period required by law, especially when there was no cogent and verifiable ground of indictment of the applicants for any offence. The Judge ordered that each applicant be paid N2m as damages for their unlawful detention and another N10m as cost of litigation. All rights reserved.

LMAO 😂

News like this makes me hate Nigeria the more

There are hundreds of innocent biafrans in police custody for years without trial and the courts in nigeria kept silent or refused to do the right thing.

are you whining me? sho whine mi

APC and this Administration are stealing the joy of Nigerians

🤔wawu! I hear some peaceful EndSARS protesters are still in detention across the country o!

while Nigeria government is busy killing igbo youths

?😐

Police pay suspected murderers detained without trial in the North, while innocent youths they pick up in d South for either protesting, driving big cars, wearing dreads, or just taking a walk, hardly get access to justice. In fact, they must pay their ways out of their cells.

Later now, some jokers would argue that this NigeriaGov is serious about winning the war on terror. Rubbish

davexam Indeed! Even Bokoharam. Truly Buharis boys.

Abeg who's suing the police?

NGRPresident is the sponsors of boko haram. Full stop!

How many IPOB members, EndSARS protesters have they kept in their custody for days, weeks, months and even a year nw without trial. When it gets to those in the North the laws will be different when it comes to the South the laws will be different and yet 'we are one Nigeria'.

Madam IG also instructed her photo on punch news should be filtered with beauty plus.

Haha 😂 😂 Welcome to 9ja my country

People who know what they are doing.. Our own southern people will even join hands to detain more innocents .

but in same nigerià thousands of innocènt igbos are abductèd locked up indefiniteIy & murdèred by nigerià jihadíst poIice/àrmy… apparently you fuIani jihadíst paràsites know the law, but it only applies to fuIani jihadíst terrorísts your atrocitiès are being documented

This is a strong message to readers, you know now who the country belong to,if you like don't get your PVC and vote, same thing will happen in 2023.

Next time just shoot them. Shikenan

What do you stand to gain by misleading Nigerians? How does your headline reflect on the real story? Illegal detention is one of the reasons for the clarion call to end SARS but here you are trying to push a misleading narrative just for traffic, you got it though. Congrats

🤣🤣🤣

What about that innocent girl of 21 years they tagged as IPOB informant. Has she been tried yet? So many innocent people are languishing in jail without trial today but the police wasn’t fined. Terrorism can never end in Nigeria. 🤦🏼‍♂️

How many IPOB members and allegedly IPOB and ESN members have Been detained or even killed without consequences. MANY Igbo men and women are still missing after what happened in Obigbo after EndSars protest.

This country is really dying. 😔

May God punish who ever says we are one Nigeria. If we are one, we should have equal rights as a citizen and not treating some like slave and giving prefrencial treatment's to others.

What a country. This people should tell us the truth behind bokoharam, who is their founder or godfather. The protection is just too much.

Who fined them? The person is also a boko haram if really established that they are boko haram terrorist

Ketem_

Nigeria my country.... The favoritism is just toooo obvious 😂😂😂 mr presido should be calming down with his 'smelly body language' 🤣🤣🤣

Lol 😂

They won't be charged for detaining anyone from South East they got killed without reasons
