WORKERS of tertiary institutions in Plateau State on Friday decried the deplorable state of affairs in the tertiary education sector in the state.

The workers, who have been on strike for the past two weeks, warned that they would not fold their arms while the situation continued to degenerate, accusing the state government under Governor Simon Lalong of toying with tertiary education in the state. Addressing a press conference in Jos on Friday, the Chairman of the Joint Union of Plateau State-owned Tertiary Institutions, Sunoe Longbaam, said it was unfortunate that instead of attending to the demands of the striking workers, government officials had continued to frustrate their efforts despite agreement reached with the union members.

Longbaam said, “A situation, where our reminders and notices are not responded to by offices, where such letters are addressed, calls for concern. We are a law abiding union and cannot just watch while some officials in government toy with tertiary education in the state.” The chairman maintained that the striking workers would not return to their duty posts until governments addressed their demands.
