Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, on Sunday said the State Community Volunteer Guards would be equipped with legal weapons recognised by constitution of the country.

The Community Volunteer Guards of the state which will be signed into law on Tuesday, according to the governor, was amended to allow the guards to carry legal weapons. Ortom explained that the law was first passed in the year 2000 by the Benue State House of Assembly and was assented to by the then governor, George Akume. He said when the law is assented to on Tuesday, it would enable the guards to bear weapons so as to assist the conventional security agents to fight crime and terrorist activities in the state.

Ortom lamented that all calls and appeal by Nigerians to Federal Government to declare killer Fulani herdsmen terrorist fell on deaf ears. He said that the activities of the killer herdsmen were worse when compared with other groups that had already been proscribed by the Federal Government. All rights reserved. Welcome development. He should try and pay salary small, please.

Splendid

This is the way to go by backing it with a law. Nigeria is a federal state; if the federal govt doesn't like it, they should go to court.

Good development, benue amotekun type
