Updated May 13, 2021 The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Army, Senator Ali Ndume, has faulted the declaration of the ban on open grazing in the South by governors in the region. He believes making a public proscription of the movement of cattle by foot in the southern part of the country by the governors cannot be as effective as meeting with the President to address the issues of concern.

“I am not concerned about what they (the governors) said … I was thinking that they would come out with immediate solution, mid-term solution, and long-term solution to open grazing,” he noted,” Senator Ndume said on Thursday when he featured as a guest on

Channels Television’s Politics Today. He added, “We have serious security challenges in this country that are different in all the geopolitical zones and I was expecting that the governors will come together and address these issues, come up with the solutions that they have mentioned and discuss with the President in a closed-session as we call it in the Senate, not to come out to the media and issue a blanket statement.”

Be Practical, Realistic, And HonestTwo days before the interview, the state governors in the South resolved to ban open grazing and movement of cattle by foot in the region at a meeting in Asaba, the Delta State capital.A group photograph of state governors in southern Nigeria after a meeting in Asaba, Delta State on May 11, 2021.

Apparently putting the security challenges in the region ahead of their political differences, the leaders called for the restructuring of the country along with fiscal federalism, devolution of powers, and state police, among other demands. They also asked President Muhammadu Buhari to address the nation and convene a national dialogue to address the agitations by various groups in the region.

In his reaction, Senator Ndume stressed that convening a national dialogue was not the way to go, citing the outcome of the National Conference of 2014 as an example. He also stated that he has no problem with the ban on open grazing in the South, although he asked the governors to look at the larger picture.

According to the lawmaker, Nigeria is faced with various security challenges and not just open grazing in a particular region.A file photo of Senator Ali Ndume. He maintained his position on the approach of the governors rather than meeting with the President to privately address the issues raised.

Senator Ndume said, “The governors, being the chief security officers of the various states in the South, should not take these things lightly or should not politicise it, or even try to look as if they are just grandstanding.“They have unfiltered access to Mr President who is the Commander-In-Chief … all these things are not going to be implemented by making statements to the media, that is my concern.”

“When the leadership is playing to the gallery in a very challenging situation like this, I get so concerned. They should be practical and realistic and honest and that is lacking in that statement,” he added. Read more: Channels Television »

What have done for people in Gwoza And what happen to your back sit governors? What is your own immediate/ long term solution since their own is not sufficient for you 2)....MBuhari. Now they are telling the Southern Governors to meet MBuhari privately. What is the duty of Governors in this country sef? Some of these northern politicians are just so insincere

1) GovSamuelOrtom discussed with the President privately, it never worked out. He came out to cry openly to the whole world, they said, he's the chief security officer of the state. He should devise ways of securing the state and not crying out to the NigeriaGov or to....... Long term solution reforestation . Fill water to Lake Chad .

It works! Enough land space in the north. A simple solution Disintegration is the ultimate Expectant weldone sir This guy is sick. What has been his response to all the statements made by northern Govs and miyetti all this years?

Southern governors ban open grazing, call for restructuringGovernors from Nigeria’s southern states have banned open grazing of cattle across states in the region and called for the restructuring of the country to address issues threatening national unity. OduduwaNationNow BiafraNationNow is the only solution no amount of restructuring can keep us together with animals A clearance call to defend their lands from FedGOV forceful assisted programme on grazing. This are the reasons: remembered, who introduced RUGA COWCOLONY is it the Maiyetti Alah or the FedGov?Who told you;is better to give your land than death-someone 4rm presidency or maiAlah We are asking for referendum they are calling for restructure, they just wake up to sun rise... Godcomment...

It appears the economy depends on proceeds from cows given the apprehension of the north. The ban is immediate and long term. Elements from the north cannot dictate for our Governors in the south. But why are these northerners afraid of one single southern meeting🤔 the norther governors have always met in kaduna in closed doors, but e no shake south. But one single southern governors meeting north dey panic 🤔 wht is in dis south dat dey fear😂

Every fulani man is bad, they are wolfs in sheep clothing. Truth is always far from them when it comes tribe. You destroy farms to keep your malues that is dangerous to health. They reason ackwardly. I wonder what Ndume means by long term solution.Explanations It is pertinent that north is taking the southern governors resolution personal.

I dnt even understand their brains. There are enough unused land up Nth, where they can invest, make it habitable 4 the cows & the country can have peace. Southern gov ban open grazing and they still crying foul like fools. This Ndume will be vying for president now with no sense Come and lay pipeline and steal the grass to the North, like you laid pipeline in Rivers, Bayelsa, Imo etc etc. Build grass cooling system in Jigawa ,the same way you built Refinery in Kaduna. Injustice everywhere

What have you & FG done since herdsmen terror? nothing. You can’t fool all the people all the time It's funny how some educated minds sees a primitive farming technique a solution to farming practice in 2021 When you have problems of your own, do you look to others to solve it for you, or try to look inwards to how you can correct it yourself? Taking responsibility for your matters earns you respect, honour and saves you from disgrace!

Why are you polishing this man's statement? He said he knows the south more than southern governors. The long &short term is ban on open grazing. Simple. We have more than 90% Northerners doing quality jobs in the South nobody disturbed them.

Insecurity: Southern Governors Close Ranks, Oppose Open Grazing, Demand RestructuringBY BY JONATHAN NDA- ISAIAH, Abuja FELIX IGBEKOYI, Asaba and ACHOR ABIMAJE, Jos, TOPE FAYEHUN, Akure, and ISAIAH BENJAMIN, Kaduna The governors of southern Equally the Northern Governors should restrict Southerners from open Market in the North Demand Restructuring from who? Is it so hard for these clowns to call on their Representatives & Senators at the nassnigeria to push forward this isn't the duty of the Executive arm to do this Restructuring, very good and beautiful talk, but they should set the ball rolling, grant LG's, judiciary and house of assemblies autonomy, then we can know that they are sincere. Bunch of nincompoop

Ogbeni Boko oti ya weyrey. Which is? Why can't the North take up their responsibility and stop hiding behind the shield We all know Insecurity is a big problem and this need to be done to tackle the increasing insecurity cases in Nigeria. Watch here All this plenty debate will never help this country. We are talking too much instead of taking actions that will lift us up from this mess. This problem go reach every body if we no use our head.

Senators reacts as Southern Governors call for restructuring, state police, ban open grazing - Daily Post NigeriaThe Southern Senators’ Forum has commended steps taken by state governors from the region to stem the rise in insecurity. Recall that the Southern Restructure Nigeria now or thieving useless senators are supposed to address these issues years ago... they’re paid for nothing, nigeria has to be on the brink of civil war for Southern governors to know they have to come together & protect coastal Africa from north African jihadist invaders The thorn in the flesh(evil yeye Nigeria) must disintegrate. QED!

Who's your President? Sleeping president Why are this northern governor's so kin on this Open Grazing? Is they something they're not telling us? Are you more brilliant than the Governors? Which long term solution is better than banning open grazing, that way they'll be forced to venture into ranching. But trust the Fulani's to see the whole Nigeria as the estate of Utman Danfodio.

Must Fulani rear their cattle in the South? Can't they ranch their cattle in the North and bring them to South to sell the way Hausa plant their crops in the North and bring to the South to sell. Unless they have evil agenda as it's been suggested. This cow repeatedly confirmed that the governors are the CSOs of their states, i wonder why he still expects them to meet with the mannequin in aso villa before making expedient security decisions. If the north is not happy with the grazing ban, they can kindly hug transformer.

Every northerner is a potential Terrorist. Either christian or the other religion What will he say that will be sensible Why the matter dey pain Mr Ndume like this? Na him be the presidency or what?

Southern senators back govs on restructuring, open grazing - Punch NewspapersThe most widely read newspaper in Nigeria No time responficient11 On pages of news paper or through democratic actions?

Seriously Senator Ndume goofed. If ranching is not a long term plan, I wonder what else. Incase if you don’t know what this man is saying . His telling southners to fix the mess they created ... They have been sending this people into southners farm for years eating up farms as soon as southerners found their voice they have problem with it . Bullies

The governors don’t sell land NDUme close your mouth for a min and reason for 10 mins . Let those people buy land and start grazing . I thought FG gave miyetti money he should buy land for his people now or where has the money gone to Okay! JoyzBright Provide cattle ranch up north the Ban has come to stay.

You are talking rubbish, Ndume, go and sit down and cease thinking like a he goat. Open grazing in twenty first century is not only disgraceful but primitive. Very obsolete method of animal husbandry! The people's choice must be respected. No grazing in the south. E shock them. If to ban open grazing is only development this government can do please be fast about it. The government a game reserve or park for cattles and herdmen lol, it can also as tourist center😅😅😅

Stay in the north that's the only solution! There is enough land there

Mad man Mumu ndume U provide solution outside anti-open grazing Ban open grazing in the South, irrigate it in the North is the only solution. No going back on that, Northerners have more land mass to accommodate their individual business which doesn't contribute anything in Nigeria economic growth.
