OPINION: One good thing about Buhari’s regime

Nigeria Headlines News

Nigeria Latest News, Nigeria Headlines

Years back, a friend who had worked on the 2011 Major General Muhammadu Buhari presidential campaign told me about the overly enthusiastic responses they had received in the North. In one instance, he said Buhari’s horde of supporters had not only swarmed the airport where their campaign aircraft was to land, they also practically lifted the aircraft in their joy of the arrival of their “messiah”.

Some might want to argue that it is too early to write the obituary of his regime, but one is not merely being pessimistic when observing there is not much left for Buhari other than to mark time till May 29, 2023. He might refurbish a few roads here and there, build some infrastructure in a few places and quickly inaugurate them before leaving office, but there will not be much more than that forthcoming.

In terms of security, Nigeria is not much better off than it was in 2015. Recently, Buhari himself admitted that Boko Haram’s continued existence surprises him. The implication of his astonishment at what Boko Haram has turned out to be — rather than what he assumed they were — is an admission that he never fully understood the complexity of the problem, nor did he prepare to tackle terrorism with the strategic insight it required. Instead, they have gone for propaganda.

As for his alleged fight against corruption, let us agree that Buhari’s poor understanding of what corruption is and the socio-political conditions that impel it, are as much the problem as the issue that it pretends to solve. If Buhari understood corruption, he would have approached his supposed agenda of anti-corruption quite differently.

One thing I love about him is, his reign brought too much hardship that Nigerians dey reason well now.

I enjoy reading Abimbola and she never disappoints.

This article speaks to 1% Nigeria. Nigerians have not learnt anything. We are still looking for that Messiah. Our religious establishments have told us to.

Nothing

There is nothing that we will not see and hear from these hordes of compromised journalists, Buhari this and Buhari that, as if Nigeria have witnessed the reign of any selfless leader better than Buhari. But these young parrots will be abusing their father?

Thank you for this!

Buhari buhari.. Nigeria please who is bearing Buhari 🤣😂😂

A smart mind wont want to miss Abimbola weekly write up, one of the best analytical writers in nigeria print media. Kudos sis.

Since na punch I go read am

Brilliant article

Boarder closure is one good thing i truly appreciated

She said it all.Nothing more to say.

Read it,she did state the good thing, which is, it has never been clearer that buhari never meant well becasue of his incompetence as the writer stated.he/she also added that we took buhari as a messiah and he messed up. No one can save us except oursleves as the writer wrote more

Hasn't been sick

I will just walk pass this headline, nothing productive can be discussed in the article, I swear die

Ex governors and Senators are now sure that they are real candidates for prison when they run foul of anti-graft laws unlike in the past when they were above the law

We must get sense by force

Yea the good thing about his regime is that the hardship, insecurity and every bad thing this administration has been dishing out is dealing with all asundry. Just that some are zombified already, so nothing you say or do will change their opinion. They rather die.

Buhari's legacy is already written. He will not leave us better than he met us. Masterly piece

One good thing about Buhari's regime is nothing. Absolutely nothing.

I don't need to read the contents because as far as I know, the name Buhari himself means hardship.

There is nothing good in Buhari. APC is Boko Haram, PMB is Boko Haram supported by Tinubu. God purnish devil inside them all

What is the good thing oooo. Tell me

.......Mushy sentiments will get us nowhere, and we will be better off if we approach political candidates with scepticism when they offer “change” slogans and simplistic answers to complex economic problems.

I have written his regime obituary long time ago, he's a waste of time and space.

Always on point the great one , unlike your likes who both are men but decide taking coward look because of one man influence and gloteness. The pastors professor VP and some uncircumcised general overseas GOs masquerading themselves representative of God will all be exposed come

I'm here to learn his good side, cause he can't be that bad generally. But I won't condole people comparison.

Rice farming/production has insignificantly improved

Beautiful piece as usual.

Just expressed the Mind of Nigerians. Thanks

Nothing positive

Nothing positive

I just hope Ms 'bola will be safe after today... another asylum seeker lurking.

Nigeria is a zoo
