He said that there is need to put an end to all forms of discrimination against women especially the girl child.Nnamani, in a statement to commemorate the 2019 International Day of the Girl Child, in Abuja, also called for the elimination of negative cultural practices against girls in the country in with international best practices.
The former governor of Enugu State also called for the promotion of women and girls involvement in the politics and governance of the country and the implementation of the 35% affirmative action for women in political appointments.The Senator urged the Federal Government to do more to advance the rights of women and girls and promote gender equality in line with the theme of this year’s celebration which is: “Girl-Force: Unscripted and unstoppable”.
He pledged to pay the West African Examinations Council fees for all female students taking the exams next year in public schools in his Enugu East Senatorial District. He said that specific actions needed to be taken to end violence against women and girls, in health, education, skills development and training as well as protect young girls at work.
