The Nigeria Police Force, Lagos State command has warned the Labour Party (LP) and its supporters not to converge on the Lekki tollgate for its “#Obidatti23 Forward Ever” rally scheduled for October 1.A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos had on Wednesday ordered the party and its supporters not to converge on the Lekki Toll-Gate.SaharaReporters had reported on Wednesday that a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos State issued an order restricting the Labour Party and supporters of Obi, from converging at the Lekki Tollgate for the #Obidatti23 Forward Ever Rally. The court had ruled that supporters of the Labour Party can pass through the Toll-Gate for its rally but must not converge on the facility. He said: “This is not a protest, it is a rally and most political parties will be doing rallies because campaign season has started. The presiding Judge, Justice Daniel Osiagor, also directed the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, and the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alabi, to ensure compliance with the order. To beat the hell out of them tomorrow," a witness said on Friday. The court ruling had however been met with condemnation from some sections of Nigerians who noted that such was against democratic principle of lawful assembly.Meanwhile, the court could not hear the preliminary objection filed by the defendants to stop the court from hearing the motion on the grounds that it lacked jurisdiction and that the matter cannot be entertained because all parties to the suit were not served.

Reacting in a statement, Benjamin Hundeyin, spokesperson of the command said anyone found flouting the court order or infringing on the rights of other Nigerians would be dealt with in accordance with the law.The High court order is sequel to a motion for injunction brought before Justice Daniel Osiagor, by 10 plaintiffs, asking the court to, among others, restrain the LP, its presidential candidate Peter Obi, his vice, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, one Julius Abure and their loyalists from holding the rally.“We must also correct the narrative that the EndSARS movement started out as a form of destruction of properties. The statement read, “It has become imperative to reemphasise that no form of rally whatsoever will be allowed at the Lekki Toll gate tomorrow, October 1, 2022.This emphasis has become necessary to enlighten Nigerians that might be misled into converging on the toll gate.are asking the court to, among others, restrain the LP, its presidential candidate Peter Obi, his vice Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, one Julius Abure and their loyalists from holding the rally, until the hearing and determination of their Motion-On-Notice of September 12, 2022.“A court of competent jurisdiction has ruled that no person is allowed to converge on the Lekki Toll gate for whatever reason. There was a repercussion and people that were not even initially part of that movement proceeded violently that resulted in some of the things we saw.“In conformity with its mandate to protect life and property, the Lagos State Police Command under the leadership of CP Abiodun Alabi, fdc will leave no stone unturned in ensuring total compliance with the court order and an emplacement of adequate security in the state., Salamatu Suleiman Lewi Esq.

“While the Command is not averse to the peoples’ right to freedom of assembly and association; and expression, the Command will equally live up to its mandate of ensuring that no person or group of persons is allowed to infringe on the fundamental human rights of others, especially the rights to freedom of movement and right to dignity of human persons, especially under the guise of rally or procession.“The warning therefore goes that anyone found flouting the court order or infringing on the rights of other Nigerians will be dealt with in accordance with the law., Ogunbona Akinpelu Esq.” Rhodes-Vivour said Lagosians are looking forward to security presence at the rally which is being organised for the Presidential candidate of the party, Peter Obi tomorrow.“Meanwhile, CP Alabi enjoins all peace loving persons to go about their lawful duties without fear of harassment or intimidation, reiterating that adequate security assets have been strategically deployed to ensure the safety and security of Nigerians at designated rally venues and across the state at large.” Topics.Oluwasegun, Esq.
