Nigerian newspapers: 10 things you need to know this Friday morning

1.The Nigerian government has announced a coronavirus disease case in Lagos State, Nigeria. The Federal Ministry of Health confirmed the positive test of the virus in Nigeria, Friday morning, in a statement signed by Dr Osagie Ehanire, Minister of Health. The case, recorded on Thursday, 27th of February 2020, is the first to be reported in Nigeria since the outbreak in Wuhan, China in December 2019.

3. Iranian Vice President, Masoumeh Ebtekar has tested positive to the deadly coronavirus. State news in Tehran reported Thursday that the development has added to mounting fears over the virus spread. Ebtekhar, also President Hassan Rouhani’s adviser on family and women’s matters, has been placed under quarantine.

5. A High Court sitting in Lokoja, has declared the removal of Elder Simon Achuba, a former Deputy Governor by the Kogi State House of Assembly as null and void, adding that the subsequent nomination of Chief Edward Onoja did not follow due process.

7. Nigeria’s Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, has claimed that Boko Haram is targeting Christians, in a bid to cause a religious war. Mohammed stated this on Thursday, while addressing a press conference in Abuja, the nation’s capital. The Minister admitted that although the insurgents are still attacking Muslims, they now “have a deliberate policy of attacking Christians”.
