Nigerian govs warn Buhari govt as direct allocation to LGs begins June

Governors of the 36 States in Nigerian have opposed the Buhari government’s announcement that direct allocation to local government councils will begin June 1.announced a ban on transactions on state and local governments joint accounts.

It quoted Chairman of the NGF and Governor of Zamfara State, Abdulaziz Yari, who signed a protest letter to the federal government as expressing “dismay and angst at this brazen attempt by the NFIU to ridicule our collective integrity and show total disregard for the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.”

The governors added, Section 162 expressly “provides for the creation of the States Joint Local Government Account into which shall be paid all allocations to the LGAs of the State from the Federation Account and from the government of the state.” “In principle, the NFIU should concentrate on its core mandate of Anti-money laundering AML activities and Combatting financing Terrorism CTF as prescribed in the Act establishing it and should desist from encroaching on or even breaching constitutional provisions,” the statement quoted the governors as saying.

The NGF should direct the warning to the Local Government Chairmen and NOT President Buhari. The LGA would from now be made to account for direct allocation received by them. The era of zero allocation slogan of LGA chairmen to cover poor services must end in Nigeria.

This is a great development, MBuhari NGRPresident should ignore the Governors they are so selfish and thieves, this will bring more developments to the local governments if utilized. Cos LG are closer to the people than the state & they all have their a responsibilities

If this is successful, this will be the first major policy Buhari-led government will do, & that is also meaningful & directly beneficiary to the people. Kudos to this laudable policy.

Why? The Governor's warning Buhari's government if they were not have any interest on this local government money.

These Nigerians governors are they humans, sympathetic at all. This your actions of pocketed and again want to continues looting Local Government Funds allocated in the one of the factor that caused the insecurity in the country yesterday, today, and tomorrow if care are not taken
