Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations made this known in a statement on Tuesday.Akpor was namedby Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya.HesucceedsMajor General BO Sawyer, the ex-DDI who assumed the role in July 2021 from previous position as Commandant, Nigerian Army Armoured School.

The DDI operates from the Defence Headquarters in Abuja and authorized to speak for all the Air Force, Army and Navy.Until his promotion to Major General and new appointment, Akpor was the Director, Directorate of Military Training (DMT).The DMT is headed by a Director of a Brigadier General rank who is answerable to the Commandant, a Major General.

Earlier, Ibrahim thanked the Commandant for the mentorship he enjoyed from him, describing him as a thoroughbred senior officer. He succeeds Major General BO Sawyer, the ex-DDI who assumed the role in July 2021 from previous position as Commandant, Nigerian Army Armoured School. The DDI operates from the Defence Headquarters in Abuja and authorized to speak for all the Air Force, Army and Navy. Ibrahim particularly thanked the Commandant for prioritising the welfare of Corps members, including provision of accommodation and feeding for them while on transit. Until his promotion to Major General and new appointment, Akpor was the Director, Directorate of Military Training (DMT). They attended a social gathering that was held in honour of Eyitayo’s promotion to the rank of a Major General.

The DMT is headed by a Director of a Brigadier General rank who is answerable to the Commandant, a Major General. In another development, the Director-General has commended Corps Members serving at the Nigerian Defence Academy for being good ambassadors of the scheme, urging them to sustain the tempo of dedication and contribution to national development. The unit, under the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), trains cadets in military subjects to equip them with skills and values before commissioning as Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) officers.
