Ajayi warned Austine Eguavoen’s side that they need to stay focused and not get too carried away when they clash with Tunisia after their impressive display at the group stage. The former Arsenal star insisted that any team could beat any team at this stage of the competition, adding that the Super Eagles need to show respect to Tunisia. After losing 1-0 to Morocco in their first match and drawing with Gabon, Ghana and Comoros travelled from Yaounde to Garoua for the last match. Speaking to NFF TV about Nigeria’s clash with Tunisia, Ajayi said: “Absolutely, I 100 percent believe in the guys that we have in this squad, we have an abundance of talent and definitely the potential to go all the way. thus, as a superstitious Nigerian fan, I have picked (maybe myopically) recurring events through history when the Eagles have lifted the trophy. “But it is not about talking, we need to do it on the pitch, we need to stay focused and not get too carried away, we do that, stay humble and work hard hopefully we can achieve our potential. “Ghana is our West African neighbour, and we do a lot of things in common when it comes to supporting football teams,” the public relations officer of the Super Eagles Supporters Club, Orishabiyi Olutayo, told The Guardian shortly after the Black Stars’ exit.” He added, “Honestly, there is no one team that has a divine right to the AFCON. Then handled by the erstwhile manager, Gernot Rohr, the Super Eagles prevailed 1-0 in the losers final as they picked the bronze medal ahead of the North Africans.

Everyone is concerned, we have already seen upsets happen already so just because you have big names and big teams, it’s the AFCON. Olutayo explained that over 50 of their members, dressed in their Aiteo jersey, arrived at the Roumde Adjia Stadium on time for the game. In 1980, the Green Eagles (as they were then known) topped Group A with five points (seven points in today’s equivalence) from two wins and a draw. Anyone can beat anyone, so we have to show everyone respect and I’m sure other teams are showing us respect. We’ll see who wins. We actually wanted them to qualify so that we could have enough West African teams in the knockout stage.” The kick-off time for Nigeria vs Tunisia is 8 pm. In 1994, in a group of three teams, the Eagles beat Gabon (West Africa) 3-0 and drew goalless with Egypt (north Africa).
