The President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, Prof Emmanuel Osodeke, in this interview with FRIDAY OLOKOR, says the union’s age-long battle with the Federal Government, which has seen students being shut out of campuses for long months, is far from over

Our reality is that while Nigerian lecturers go outside the country to teach, no foreigner can come to teach in Nigeria. Any country you go to, you will see a Nigerian lecturing because of the fluidity of the university system in those places, but nobody from outside this country, not even from the Republic of Benin, will want to come and teach in Nigeria because our payment and welfare have been degraded. The situation is that universality is leaving the Nigerian university system.

We have been very patient in the interest of the Nigerian students and the Nigerian populace but government has to work hard to address the issues they agreed to in December 2009.

If we can have a law that says that once you are in government or you take a government appointment, your children must school in Nigeria, the system will change. How will you respond to critics who believe that ASUU has contributed to the existing problems in the public universities by embarking on so many strikes actions, thereby disrupting academic calendar and making students spend additional years in school and graduate at an age that limits their economic opportunities?

Exactly what we need to put into place but who will scrap and make the new laws

Sure this is true

You don't remember this whenever your colleagues were helping to rig elections for them. Abegi!!!

Nice one. But it can't happen in Nigeria 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I support too 👍

You're not serious , the only good escape for us to abroad you want to block it ?

Buhari is coming for you😂😂😂

This law is against human rights

I support this one

Could backfire as this could discourage highly skilled people from running for office. People that made their money legitimately should be free to send their children anywhere they want.

Will that kind of law work where this can happen? Just asking sha

Even when your president said he was going to stop medical tourism outside your country did the idea see light of day? It never work .🙄

Why?

Asuu official's kids too.

Finally someone has said what's been on my mind since.....

The most make sense word for today

Yes yes yes

It's the truth

This is very important,, very key

Igbo governors read a statement made by a sitting governor of Lagos state,SanwoOlu. Protecting Igboho None of u governors from the east made one statement to protect Nnamdi Kanu. Why are u governors so wicked n selfish? U dont know ur own? Fulani protected Guinea Pantami. O GOD

If we all patronize our hospitals and schools and ban importation of cars & likes... Nigeria will be fixed immediately, surprisingly

Very accurate

Saying this on the tweeter will not make it happen. I believe if all our representative at all our constituency received it as a proposal from their citizens and is publish in all the daily newspapers and if possible schedule a rally at all the higher institutions

Is DS de problems we r facing

Yes

Sane reasoning 💪

More chance for a bear to pass through the eye of a needle than for this to happen.

Yes,even none should go abroad for medicals, vacation,or own any property abroad

Nope! ENFORCEMENT of CURRENT LAWS and ACCOUNTABILITY of Public Officers ARE LACKING in governance in Nigeria. Please note that CORRUPTION engulfed every sector: private, public, Church, Mosque, and almost every…

LIFEFAC83563250 Just imagine dis kain Agbero talk coming from ASUU President…

May be for the coming generations. For this generation, I doubt this would be happening.

So that your lectures will be disturbing them with forced sex abi? 🤡

“A drastic measure will never be implemented until extreme situation manifested.” The problem we have with Nigerian leaders is that most of them don’t care about the public, they only care about themselves, family and constituents until something dire happens.

You're dreaming

Not only that, plus medical too.

Thanks

Include Asuu members

“Wait o! Am I even saying this in Nigeria or UAR, oomo I don fvck up”

We they look you ooo

So they should bring their children to your universities so that you’ll harass them sexually

Joyismi 😂😂😩 The man's face is a whole meme

Who will pass the law?

Sir, I second this opinion, not just to be schooling in Nigeria but must be in public institution

Not only schooling, but seeking medical services abroad and wearing imported wears

Those politicians are the same people the ASUU members rigged elections for. Kano in my mind

That will amount to infringement on their rights to choice. Rather the so called public should shine their eyes to see who is with them and who is not. But by and large the problem is a two way problem. The masses are also a willing tool to be used.

The law makers are the same law breakers bcus Nigeria is a lawless country and as a result of tis one law for the ruling and oligarchy class the other one is for the rest💔🔥😭🏃

Yes its a welcome development,If they will allow that to fly.

Schooling and medical... If your kids don't school in Nigeria or didn't school in NIGERIA, NO

Nigerian public officials love to copy and paste laws from foreign countries that suit them but the one wey no favor them they can never go there o. Mr President of ASSU I’m sure you know how far? Good advice but it will never see the light of day🤣.

Abeg una which country is called zoo

If their children are using student Loan or scholarship, then, I don't have a problem with that, but if it is their parent who is a Political elected individual is the one paying everything, we need to know which department is he or she syphoning to afford such an amount.

You want law makers who’s kids are all over the world schooling to make that law? Sorry sir, it’s not gonna happen

Gbam! Next corrupt Officials!

Archaic thinking, propose solution to problems bedeviling Nigerian education. Ban can't and won't solve all problems

They left the group

Agreed

Politicians will soon make this law for we the people stopping us from traveling abroad to study... I am sure before 2023 some misguided souls will table this to the Senate

Absolutely. But they won't.

Who will make the law? Same public officials? Laughable.

Akord Generators We buy used diesel generators

Yes yes yes

Let’s start with political office holders’ children.

They will end up denying their kids. These guys don’t have shame. You see them on video one minute and the next minute they deny it without a smile or even blinking. My point is, it will not work

We also need laws banning children of any civil servants attending private schools at all level!

This type of thinking is makes me loose hope for Nigeria.

Exactly my thoughts

This is a welcoming idea, I wholeheartedly second to this. Like if this past into law they'll surely revamp our educational system and bring it to a better standard

Such laws, certainly not under Lawan led Senate.

You'll soon become terrorist for saying the truth

Hallelujah

Even from medical tourism sef.

Gbam

Long overdue.....Nigeria's problem is class, the elites, and the people.

How can they keep their children's in Nigeria schools when the same ASUU keep embarking on monthly strike's for their own selfish interest.

Hahahaha...

I support

Senate can't pass the bill. All der children are studying abroad

It will not work, immediately any of the children turn18 he or she has the right to make it own decisions. They will tell you that is the children that choose the country to school in.

This will only be done if at all to persuade the General public. It's Education we talking about here, Loop holes will left to beat the system

harrisonJNIOR I have been saying this for years. You can't fix a nation where public officials have their kids outside the country. There won't any commitment. They are not affected. How can the heard of Universities in Nigeria have kids schooling abroad and you expect the schools to improve.

Is like you want to see crazy Eleribuu after all your pikin don dey school abroad

Do this and watch education, security and other sectors take shape.

harrisonJNIOR It is too late!! No pearly ideas (policies) can save the peerless contraption called Nigeria, even if you are given extra 1000 years.

Very true.

I support, this cause, as I support this meme picture you used

ASUUNGR I think this is one of the strategies needed to restructure our education system.

They won't adhere to your calls sir

Is that why he is holding a vibrator? 😂

If we can get the same standard of education as in other countries, then why should we spend exorbitant amount of money on education in other countries. This is so absurd.

They won't implement that

Absolutely correct

Something for ASUU to embark on strike...

Those legislators think otherwise...

PublicSquareNG Something to protest about

I'm all for this law but more concerned with the lawmakers that will try to enact it, I don't even think they will even consider such bill. Until we have such a restraining law that cut across education, health, vacation etc, No hope for Nigeria

Nigeria should also make law ensuring only professors who 3/4 of their children schooled in Nigeria or schooling in Nigeria can hold a VC, DVC, Registrar position in government universities.

I support with one bottle of wine

Trust me Education will improve massively.. They will be out to make it work..

This would be a civil rights infringement, more so in a democratic state. This is not the answer to corruption, all that is required is enforcement of the law and visible justice!

Ode

LoL 😂😂😂,who will present such papers, who will pass such laws?

Yes I support ooooo

And also going to private universities

Like any law ever works in this country,? this law will just end up being against the citizens.

So true

I've always advocate for this....same should be extended to medical tourism. I don't see how a cook will not be comfortable with his/her kids eating the food he prepared for others.....if it's not poison he made, let all of us eat the same meal😏

Nigeria is not practicing COMMUNISM to make such laws!

That's a good one; it will not only make them responsive to the devt of the educational sector but check most of you lecturers who go about sexually harassing students. It's a win win for Nigeria!

Who will make the law? Public servant will agree to make a law at their own detriment? E be like u never know naija politicians

4thArmOfGovt It is only wishful thinking! Those bastards will never pass such law.

But who will make the law wen they are the ppl in place with the children schooling abroad

DSS wii come after you.

✔️✔️✔️✔️✔️✔️✔️

Seriously, but who will make the law, when the knife and the meat is in the hand of the butcher.

Very good and they should attend government school.

What stops ASUU and ASUP from drafting this law and championing it instead of this Social Media noise.

Still don't go to strike sha. I don nearly finish

Nah today you know. Hissssssss

100% supported!

I swear !!! if this can work, our educational system will improve

I support.

That kind of law can never pull through unfortunately

am_juelz Na everything be law ? Who will implement it? 🤷

In the good days of UI, Unilag, and Unife, studying abroad was for people who couldn’t get into those elite universities, the intransigence of ASUU plunged them to the level where students now sit on window seals to learn. Bring back the qualities of those good days, it's cheaper

ASUUNGR draft a bill for this and submit it to NationalAssembl

You are very correct sir, about the issue but who make the banned and the law and for this reason, the education sector is getting worse because children don't school here in Nigeria, what do you expect, they don't even care about the situation in the country

No where in the world I think such law exists. People have rights to school anywhere they want, politicians should just fix our system.

Supported!

You can pass the IELTS exam in flying colours and get a permanent residency to Canada. DM for details on the high score formula for passing the IELTS exam

ASUU should send the proposal to the National Assembly 🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪

Serving food that you refuse to taste sounds somehow.

I concur as this will accelerate the right reform to fix the education sector.

And you expect the same politicians/public servants to make and pass the law? Nigeria is in a big quagmire.

The same public officials are the lawmakers or influencing the lawmakers. Naija is a cul-de-sac.

ASUU has all the intellectuals what stops them from drafting the bill and submitting to NASS. Some of these beautiful bills passed are from individuals

Who will tell them that to their faces.

Finally. I posited this in a constructive argument years ago and I almost got lynched by the people around who by the way were not politicians or related to any.

Yes

Yes... If not that Tambuwal won't be saying they should devise another means of claiming their entitlements. The only other means is that the children of politicians won't be able to sch abroad from pry to University level and it will be public sch and it will be public schools.

This would have been the best law I swear Some Asian countries a public servant must not even take his/her child to a private school, that’s how it should be

They will not sign it

Nigeria is finished Nigeria is dead Nigeria is gone NoNigeria ReferendumNow before it's too late UnconditionalReleaseOfNnamdiKanuNow UnconditionalReleaseOfSundayIgbohoNow

lol🤣, can it EVER stand? Who make the law?

This would have been a good move, but guess what, there are never going to sign it.

I presume it is not naija politicians you think we make the law. The legislature only makes laws that are in their own interests.
