The Interim Administrator, Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Effiong Akwa, has identified idleness as the cause of restiveness among youths in

the Niger Delta region, noting that their natural active and positive energy can be used on wrong and illegal ventures when they are idle.

He said: “Niger Delta youths are naturally active and willing to deploy their energy. When they are idle, they may be tempted to deploy this energy in the wrong and illegal ventures, which may cause restiveness and threaten the peace of the region”. He expressed satisfaction with the quality of modern instructional equipment at the institute saying NDDC would partner with the institute to develop training programmes for the youths.

“The best way to maintain peace is to keep the youths busy in meaningful ventures that will grow our economy. The NDDC under my boss, Akwa, is desirous to create these missing opportunities for the youths and we want every firm operating in the Niger Delta to partner with us in realising this vision”.
