The Niger State Child Rights Agency has launched a manhunt for the parents of a four-month-old boy abandoned at the state Secretariat, Minna.

The Director General of the agency, Mariam Kolo, who disclosed this to Northern City News on Tuesday, said the baby was found around 7am on Sunday after she received a call from an employee of Prestige FM, a private radio station in Minna.

Kolo said she directed an employee of the agency to confirm if the claim was true after which she ordered officer to take necessary action. A staff member of the agency, Suleiman Makunsidi, said, “On Sunday around 7am, I received a call from my DG that I should rush down to state secretariat opposite the House of Assembly, that there was a baby abandoned by the parents.

“When I got there, I saw the baby covered with one wrapper, a shirt and no pants, and his body was full of mosquito bite marks. I then took the baby to the office to meet my DG.” Kolo explained that the child was first taken to the Tudun Wada Police Station for registration before he was taken to the general hospital for medical attention. She said, “I wonder what would make a parent leave or abandon a child in the cold weather like this. This is not fair to the child’s health. We are lucky to have found the child alive and well.”All rights reserved.
