Chief Timipre Sylva, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources has assured that the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) currently before the National assembly will be passed in the next few weeks.

The PIB, which was first presented at the National Assembly in 2008, is an omnibus law to regulate the entire spheres of the industry.

“I have seen a lot of commitment from the National Assembly; they have gone on retreat because of this and just yesterday, we also engaged and they are very much on the Petroleum Industry Bill. Sylva said that the PIB would be the foundation of the continued growth of the oil and gas industry, adding “it is unfortunate that the passage was delayed for over 20 years and for very good reasons.’’“We cannot be changing the laws with that kind of sector too often because people are making long term investments with long term projections based on your laws.

Lawan said that the 9th National Assembly would continue to support all efforts to ensure the passage of the PIB.
