“Our telecoms service providers, especially MTN, Glo, Airtel, 9Mobile and others should see this time as an opportunity for them to further exhibit their value as responsible corporate citizens by slashing tariffs on calls and data bundles.”

On his Twitter handle, @DrIsaPantami, yesterday, the minister said: “As earlier conveyed, as the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy in charge of policy of the telecoms sector as in the Nigeria Communications Act 2003, Part 1, I ‘urge’ the Nigerian Communications Commission , MTN, Glo, Airtel Nigeria, 9mobile, etc to ensure they further subsidy and relax calls/data for citizens in this critical time.

He added: “Our telecoms service providers, especially MTN, Glo, Airtel, 9Mobile and others should see this time as an opportunity for them to further exhibit their value as responsible corporate citizens by slashing tariffs on calls and data bundles. Good name is better than riches sometimes, and now is just one of such times.”

He added that it must also be noted that low tariffs could also lead to traffic congestion, stressing that so many operations run on telecoms infrastructure in the country.

Let's FG makes it a reciprocity approach by slashing VAT & TAXES ,they will in turn see the need to extend reduction in calling rate with other incentives.

Why not ask fed govt 1st why they increased VAT charges?

They cant do that....This is the time to make more money

What about Discos? Electricity is more essential commodity, please. We need 24hrs light now more than ever Discos should do this as palliative and CSR Federal government, too

Their services are even more expensive now

Louder please!

What personal sacrifices are politicians/political office holders doing to help ease the hardship for citizens?

especially glo they charge too much and no good network in aks

NGuuruu Our able Minister, you’re the Best.May Almighty Allah help us in all our endeavors AMIN

Infact I just received 10 daily sms oo

There has be a reduction to data I get from Airtel and I was told is as a result of the federal government implementation of VAT which take effect from 1 April. They also say I should expect an increase in voice call

The telecom service providers do not need to donate billions of naira to Federal government to fight COVID 19 All they need to do is give free data for month to all their users and slash the call tariffs to the minimum All most every Nigeria will benefit from this gesture

Please oooo. In fact this time, data disappears like air. They should look into this. I have loaded more than 5k in the space of one week!!!🤔😳🤔

slash the Telecom taxes also... Tit for tat

Burundi

Many think of how to profit from this war than truely caring for the victims of this war..

Exactly

Not giving useless free SMS.

They prefer giving out SMS. Who SMS help?

Pls let them keep their charity, the service will become poorer if they slash tariffs. Slow internet service will compound the woes of the lockdown. GloCare will have reasons to ration data, may 12 out of 24hrs a day.

Yes ooo, am with you. We need them the most now👇

Exactly most especially MTN

I hope they reason well ooo

Better
