TheCableThe US-Nigeria Educational and Cultural Leadership Programme Alumni Association says it will organise a youth and leadership enlightenment programme to commemorate the birthday of Martin Luther King Jr, the late civil rights activist.

According to a statement by Evelyn Oyilo, national publicity secretary, IVLP Alumni Association, the event will take place on Saturday at Damagaza community in the federal capital territory . The programme will focus on enlightening youths on being more active in terms of good representation, especially in the light of the forthcoming 2023 general election.

“It is aimed at conscientising people, especially the youths, on responsible and exemplary behaviour in the public space and against the background of the coming elections in 2023,” the statement reads.“To lead community members to the event is His Royal Highness, Joseph Budebo JP. A goodwill message is expected from the American Embassy in Nigeria. The Guest Speaker is Mr. Fred Ohwahwa, a former editor of The Guardian on Sunday.

According to the statement, Raheemat Momodu, president of the association, said the programme forms part of a series of events which the IVLP alumni is working on to contribute to meaningful participation in the preparation for the 2023 elections.“It is the duty of all us to build a better society.
