A man, identified simply as Joel, has lost his life after he was allegedly refused treatment by the Isolo General Hospital in Lagos State over fear of being a COVID-19 patient.

It was gathered that Joel slumped on Sunday while playing football and was rushed to the hospital, but he was allegedly refused treatment on the fear that he might be a COVID-19 patient., alleged that the nurses on duty claimed that they were busy and refused to attend to Joel.“The medical system failed my family friend today and I’ll never get over it.

“His family members kept begging and begging because time was running and he wasn’t getting any better, he was still not breathing…The nurses still insisted on not attending to him, because according to them, they have their plates full. They had to return him to the car and resulted in prayers. “In tears, his elder sister still went back in and requested to see any doctor on duty, after so much argument a doctor came out, heard the whole story from the nurses on duty and without taking a look at him in the car or bringing him in to check him out, the doctor then certified him dead and asked them to transfer him to the mortuary. His mother collapsed on the spot…This life is so unfair.

When contacted, the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr Godwin Akhaboa, who stated that the facility was not in the habit of rejecting patients, said the victim was brought in dead. “There are parameters to look at before certifying a patient dead and no doctor will say a patient is dead without checking those parameters. It’s never done; no nurse or doctor will do that. The patient had a cardiac arrest on a football field and he was brought in dead,” Akhaboa said. All rights reserved.

Nigerians Hospital should be sued.

Joel a good friend of mine .. Shame on this country

To all those who believe covid19 isn't real, think again. RIP to d dead

Nothing is work in Nigeria except corruption.

Doctors are getting more irresponsible and callous.

95% of those stupid govt hospital nurses&doctors r not humans. They actually hv little or no business been in d business of saving lives. Much later, I will do a trend on my experience in LUTH btw April 17th, 2020 to May 17th, 2020 that I finally lost my dearly loved 7months son

I think it's time to state closing down hospitals that are killing people by rejecting patients in critical health need.

Rip...... 9ja doctors and others are not ready to work... In our general hospitals, they don't care, if ur sickness is serious or not... Only few of them are ready to work....

May his Soul rest in perfect peace. This has always been my fear. Those with underlying health challenges would be mistaken for Covid. May God heal the World.

SHOCKING! Lady caught a man picking her used sanitary pads!! His reason will shock you!!

The excuse given by the CMD is lame and irresponsible. Nothing stops them from attempting to resuscitate him. It was heartbreaking to read that the family resorted to prayers when the health system failed them. RIP Joel.

Just bcos of the politicians greed to use covid19 to get and loot money, innocent souls are being wasted. All their target is to increase d number of cases to top in Africa so that they can get more covid19 loans and more donations in billions to further share among themselves

That's how they behave,, I thought it was only this side that Doctors and Nurses are rude and heartless, I never knew it was everywhere. No wonder that soldier slapped that Doctor and that Naval Officer slapped another Doctor.

A country with no records of follow up of a cases like this should be more feasible to a proper enquiries and investigations. To question such allegations it will be difficult of a like Nigeria.

How do they know?
