MAJORITY Leader of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Tanko Tunga, and the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Yusuf Turaki reportedly escaped death when supporters of the All Progressives Congress clashed in Awe Local Government Area during the party’s primary election on Tuesday.

The primary election was to produce a chairmanship candidate for the forthcoming local government elections slated for October 6. According to sources, the clash was between supporters of the leading chairmanship aspirant, Umar Tanko Dan-Ankano, who is the immediate past chairman of the local government and Usman Umar, the preferred aspirant of the two top politicians.

Chief of Staff to the immediate past Chairman, Yusuf Dogara, who spoke with our correspondent in Lafia on Wednesday, said “Hon. Tanko Tunga and the Commissioner for local government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Yusuf Turaki used their position to move the primary election from Awe to Lafia, and according to the election time table of the APC in the state, the primary election was supposed to end yesterday, 27th July and anything beyond that is not an election”.

Our correspondent gathered that the election was concluded at the party secretariat in Lafia where the candidate backed by the majority leader and the commissioner polled 180 votes to defeat Dan-Ankano, who garnered 86 votes.
