Rice sellers have said that unscrupulous local farmers now seize the opportunity of the border closure to bag bad quality product for sale.

This has slowed down the sale of local rice, a cross-section of foodstuff sellers said in Lagos on Friday

“The Nigerian rice industry is presently not doing so badly. It is just that our local rice processors need to improve on their final product. “After two weeks of border closure, we started getting supplies of rice with stones, chaffs and different species of rice mixed together. Another foodstuff seller, David Chukwuma, said that rice processed in Nigeria could compete with any variety in the world, if Nigerian farmers could process better.

“Most Nigerians will still go for the foreign rice if it is available because of the poor processing of our local variety,” said Chukwuma.

Where are the Mills?

And traders are giving a dog bad name so as to kill it. We would not open border ooo. Deal with it

PRINCESTONE01 This is the sabotage i am talking about...The evil lazy farmers will rather spend their resources to bring in d foreign rice instead to produce them here.. The few good farmers packaged better clean rice that produce 'LAKERICE' Once again the problem of Nigeria are Nigerians

ayemojubar You see the wickedness of Nigerians? We are our own biggest problem.

This is bad

Then Standards Organization of Nigeria (SON) and NAFDAC need to gedifuqup and do their damn job!!!!

ayemojubar Sand full the rice 🍚 die

What is Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON) and NAFDAC doing? Aside market rejection, these regulators and consumer protection bodies should do their work.

Another substitute for rice acha or gu

No regulation, no control, how competitive is what you are closing border for? May God help bbnaija.

Wetin concern Baba, he's not d one to eat it

The We in Us...

No hunger in the land

Edwardikpen That's Nigeria 4 u...Everything is an opportunity to become rich..

This is my problem with Nigerian products. Very inconsistent in maintaining standards.

In fact, border should be closed against exportation of Nigeria farm produce too more so SON and NAFDAC should start dealing with rice miller with substandard products. We are been forced to consume junks in the name of locally made under this govt.

That's bad

Nonsense. These traders should shine their eyes. All products including rice is about packaging and marketing.

May thunder fire our president if he is not eating the local rice.

🤔🤔🤔I am not understanding 🧐🧐🧐

An experimenting in an apes obey method....

The govt is trying to promote locally made rice (goods)which is good. But before they close their door on foreign products. 1) Can theses products compete globally? 2) Are you aware when you create monopoly the consumers are at risk. Don't force substandard goods on Nigerians.

I understand understand, 'Bad quality' ?

Na small small, we will get there. Soon other small agro allied companies will come to the rescue with destoning machines. We will get past this one too.

Fine whole grain not polished. All nutrients intact. Problem with us is how to cook. That rice I see is like Abakaliki rice. Very nourishing. Just let water cover the rice properly. Then use a sieve and scoop the rice separate from the stone.

If you buy a bag of local rice and discover that it's bad, return it and claim your money. The wholesaler have access to the supplier and he can always claim is money from the producer.

What do you expect? No control

You are part of the problem.. 'bad quality' rice? Is that definition for nutritious non GMO un bleached locally grown rice.. 🤷🏿‍♂️❗❓📜📖⚖️⏳⌛ 🇳🇬🧔🏿✊🏿💥⚡🔥❗❗

This is our major problem.....

So pathetic

Bought one 2days ago and i didnt get thank you from my wife 'cause we were all munching on pebbles and stones. Had my tooth chunked off sef!😢

I couldn't eat the half bag I bought last month because it was very bad. Full of stones/sound. Fast very bad.

We are our problem in this country.Nobody should tell me otherwise

Bad quality rice?🤷🏾‍♂️
