While this is, of course, a time of profound sorrow for the family and loved ones of kidnapped Green Field University students who were killed by their abductors, with others still in captivity, as well as Federal College Of Forestry Mechanisation Afaka students, I deeply commiserate with the families and loved ones of these young stars over the huge loss and the attack on our educational system.
At the moment five of the students have been confirmed dead by the commissioner, Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, as two more have recently been killed. The executive director, Resource Centre for Human Rights and Civic Education Dr Ibrahim Zikirullahi, notes that it is very sad that life no longer has value in Nigeria, as people take the lives of others at will.
‘’Although some people are of the opinion that the government should pay ransom as an alternative, I am of the view that going into conversation and negotiations with them to release the innocent children is better.‘’Everyone knows that insecurity in this country is majorly caused by politicians who do not think to address the welfare of their people. At the moment the nation’s education sector is in shambles while our health system is calling for urgent attention,’’ Zikirullahi said.
