A professor of wildlife resources management at the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Edem Eniang, who is also an expert in the study of snakes, has warned against putting victims of snakebite on a motorcycle while taking them for treatment.
He said it was best to allow the victim to lay flat or be in a position of rest, while a medical practitioner should be contacted as quickly as possible. There has been palpable fear in the minds of many Nigerians since early in the week when reports emerged that a Nigerian Air Force woman, Lance Corporal Bercy Ogah, died as a result of snakebite while using a restroom in her flat at the NAF Base on Bill Clinton Drive in Abuja.
Since then, pictures of snakes in water closets and other scary pictures have dominated different media platforms, with many being apprehensive of being victims. In an interview with our correspondent, Eniang said in the place of fear, Nigeria should be producing anti-venom to meet local demand and generate revenue through exportation.
