The National Publicity Secretary of the group, Comrade Jare Ajayi, also decried the kidnapping of seven people around Isara Remo on Lagos/Ibadan Expressway on Sunday, January 17, 2022.Published 18 January 2022 The University of Ibadan Students’ Union has apologised for the strong tone with which the Oyo State Governor was addressed in a recently circulated open letter.Published 18 January 2022 The threats by socio-cultural groups, Afenifere and Ohanaeze Ndigbo, that any political party that presents a northerner as its presidential candidate will be rejected at the polls is unsettling the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, The PUNCH has learnt.to the creation of state police by Mr Buhari, Nigerians will be keen to see how the lawmakers treat the state police bill.

Criminals in Army uniforms attacked some wedding guests whose vehicle developed fault around the expressway. They were said to be trying to fix the car when the criminals struck and kidnapped all of them. The letter which drew criticism from many, including the Special Assistant to Oyo Governor on Student Affairs, Victor Olojede, threatened protest by the students if the Governor did not take immediate action to address the issues.According to Afenifere, the incident was another evidence that governments in Nigeria have failed in their primary duties of providing security and welfare for the people.Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State had revealed in October that Governor Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto), Governor Bala Mohammed (Bauchi) and former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar had all indicated their desire to contest the Presidential election. The group in a statement recalled that the latest incident was coming barely a week after some people were reportedly kidnapped at Onigaari Village on the same Lagos/Ibadan Expressway just as some travellers, including a popular actress, narrowly escaped being kidnapped on the same road last Saturday. However, the Union released a statement via its Twitter page on Monday to apologise for the manner in which the Governor was addressed in the previous letter titled “ADDRESS INSECURITY NOW, OUR STUDENTS ARE DYING.Afenifere also raised the alarm that some displaced terrorists led by one Belo Turji were making incursion into Yorubaland. The lawmakers will have to commence work as soon as possible for these bills to stand a chance.

Ajayi in the statement said: “We recall the incessant kidnapping of and attacks on innocent people in Ondo, Ogun, Osun and Ekiti States.Read Also.“The truth is that the PDP believes that giving the ticket to a northerner will boost its chances of victory. We also recall the sacking of certain villages in Imeko area of Ogun State last week. These are unacceptable and must be stopped forthwith by all means.“The lamentations by Governors of Niger, Zamfara, Benue, Nassarawa, Borno, Kaduna, Sokoto and Katsina States on how terrorists seem to be dictating the pace in their areas ought to serve as a wake-up call for the governments and the security agencies.“However, these new threats by Afenifere and Ohanaeze are now causing trouble for the party,” a PDP chieftain said.” The group stated that no matter the strides President Buhari made on the Nigerian project, the worsening security and economic conditions in the country would rubbish his efforts and ultimate achievements.Motions on insecurity or killings have turned to weekly issues in the House.

“It is therefore incumbent on the President to allow State Police, strengthen the military with equipment and right motivation, prevail on the Attorney General to allow rule of law to operate without fear or favour, stop nepostic justice, enable the military to mop-up too much weapons in the hands of unauthorised persons and promptly convene a meeting of ethnic nationalities and interest groups,” the statement added.Afenifere acknowledged that Buhari was aware of the security situation going by his recent expressions on the issue.” The former Senate President said the South-East ought to produce the next President.Dear Reader, Every day, we work hard to provide readers such as you with the most accurate, up-to-date, and comprehensive information.Quality journalism costs money.Today, we're asking that you support us to do more.George, however, said he was confident that the party would be able to resolve its challenges. It is unclear how fast will the lawmakers act on these.
