It was pomp and ceremony in Amakohia-Ubi community of Owerri West Council, Imo state, as the Nigerian Army commissioned two classroom blocks for schools in the community.
Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, who spoke at the occasion, said that apart from the army’s statutory duty of protecting the territorial integrity of the nation and lives and property, the army is also desirous of furthering civil-military- cooperation through projects that would advance the educational and social wellbeing of the people.
Buratai, who was represented by the GOC 82 Division, Maj. Gen. Lasisi Adegboye, said that the effort of the army in fighting insurgency has been rewarding as the capacity of insurgents to inflict pain has been seriously degraded. The governor who described the Nigerian Army as one of the best and brightest globally, said despite the paucity of funds at its disposal, the army high command has not shied away from fulfilling its civilian-military responsibility.
