The FIRS spokesperson says it sought a stay of execution order and that the status quo ante should subsist on VAT collection.

But the FIRS official said the agency decided to issue the directive following numerous enquiries in the aftermath of the recent judgment.

The FIRS spokesperson explained that since the organisation had already appealed the judgment, in which it sought a stay of execution order and that the status quo ante should subsist on VAT collection.“The attention of the FIRS has been drawn to the trending report that on 19/08/2021, the Government of Rivers State took steps to enact a Value Added Tax Law for Rivers State following the Judgment of the Federal High Court Port Harcourt Division on August 9, 2021 in Suit No: CS/149/2020.

“The suit was about who has the constitutional duty for the collection of VAT and Personal income tax in Rivers State. “We wish to inform the general public that before the above-mentioned steps taken by the Government of Rivers State, FIRS had lodged an appeal against the above judgment and had also filed an application for stay of execution of the judgment as well asking the court for an injunction pending the determination of the appeal.

Wike or the court?

Wike might shut down any firm in Rivers state that pays VAT to FG. Taxpayers had better obey wike, who already secured legal backing to collect the VAT in the state.

Seriously speaking the judge that ruled in favour of Rivers on the issue of VAT was reckless. After winning on appeal, they should go ahead and file petition against him at NJC

Nope, you go sort out yourself in court.

Just say it the way it is, ignore court ruling.

GovWike is very right here! States should manage the VAT generated within the state. Caling for payment of VAT to NigeriaGov is lawlessness and a call for anarchy. Let's learn to respect the decisions of our Courts for once!

2).....pretenders from producers.

1)How can we drinking beer in Rivers state and breweries will be remitting our VAT to federal govt and it is shared to kano, jigawa and others who are destroying beer bottles. It is no longer possible, let all states generate their VAT so that we can separate parasites and.....

River 5axpayers won't be ignoring Wike they'll be ignoring a court ruling and now State law. If FIRS think the ruling is wrong why don't they appeal. If they think the state law is unconstitutional they can always go to court. Lawless govt.

Na wa lawless government is encouraging citizens to disobey a valid and subsisting Order of Court. Nothing is unheard of in Buhari's government.
