24-year-old Nigerian lady, Itunu Babalola, who recently died in Cote d’Ivoire jail after being allegedly framed for human trafficking in the francophone country, was buried in her hometown Ibadan on Saturday. The father of the deceased, Abayomi Babalola, and elder brother, Olaolu, speak toMy name is Abayomi Babalola. I am Itunu’s father. She was my only daughter.

She went back to Cote d’Ivoire and reported the case at the police station around where the incident happened. Unfortunately, the DPO of the police station where she reported the case is a relative of the robber. In fact, they said the thief is the younger brother of the DPO.

She called and told me her ordeal in the prison. She said that at times, they would beat her and do all sorts of things to her. She said at times they would seize her phone and would not give her food. I just kept encouraging her that she should endure the situation, that we were making efforts to ensure that she was released from the prison.

She paid for food and drinks and asked them to bring everything to me as a surprise. It was a Saturday and I prayed for her. I didn’t know that they would not allow my prayer for her to come to pass. Abike-Dabiri tried her best to ensure her release and she promised us that by November end or December this year, she would be out. I didn’t know she would be brought back dead to me.
