A retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Austin Iwar, says the hierarchies of the Nigeria Police Force is competent to investigate a Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, indicted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation over the cop’s alleged collusion in a $1.1m cyber fraud involving a money-laundering suspect, Abass Ramon aka Hushppuppi.
Though Kyari denied the allegations, the Police Service Commission, at the recommendation of the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, suspended the police officer on Sunday. The IGP had acknowledged the receipt of FBI’s allegations against Kyari and ordered a probe into the matter. Baba had also on Monday appointed Tunji Disu, a Deputy Commissioner of Police, to replace Kyari as the new Head of the Police Intelligence Response Team.
