How Rivers United became NPFL champions — Stanley Eguma

with three games to spare. They were led to this first title by Stanley Eguma, the longest-serving coach in the league.

“We have been working on them to ensure that we get perfection for the last two seasons. Last two seasons , we came out in the third position. Last season we came out in the second position. That’s a progressive improvement in our performances. “We looked at departments at the end of last season, areas we have problems and we made some improvements in those areas and we rejected some players that didn’t meet up with our own philosophy and culture in the team.

“We signed about eight players, and we offloaded about 10 players. Some whose contract was over, we didn’t renew their contract, so they left. Some who were with us, their contracts expired and they had to leave for greener pastures. That was how we lost about 10 players.”“Right from the beginning of the season, I knew [that] because of the players that we signed for the team.
