Gunmen rob PUNCHman of phones, withdraw cash via PoS

It was learnt that the gunmen robbed the couple of two phones, a laptop and withdrew some money from Akasike’s United Bank for Africa account after collecting his Automated Teller Machine card and pin.

He stated, “I got home from office around 1am. I was trying to undress when the generator suddenly went off. I went out to check what was wrong and my wife followed me. She shone the torchlight while I tried to restart the generator. “They took my ATM card which was on the table and asked for the pin. They vowed to verify the pin and threatened to kill me and my wife if I gave them a wrong pin. I gave them the correct pin and they left.”

He said, “They left just N7,000 in my account. It was discovered that they withdrew the money via ATM and Point of Sale. I had been saving the money for some time now with the intention to use it to repair my vehicle.

I have experienced this before. In my case, it was only the phone of my colleague that was stolen and within a space of 1hour, all her money deposited in 1 of Nigeria’s oldest bank was withdrawn. I begin to wonder how these banks IT security works. What checks do they have...
