ILARE community in Obokun East Local Council Development Area of Osun State on Wednesday threatened to report the Divisional Police Officer of Esa Oke Division to the higher police authority over his handling of a suspected goat thief arrested and handed over to him.

Watchmen from the community had reportedly arrested a suspected thief said to be a member of the gang terrorising the area and impounded the vehicle that conveyed the suspects to the town on Monday.

The head of local hunters and vigilante group in the community, Chief Aderemi Adeniji, while commenting on the development, said the suspect was a member of the gang that specialises in stealing of goats and was apprehended by the local hunters when thieves numbering about six stormed the town. “But only the ring leader was arrested with his operational vehicle, while others escaped. The apprehended suspect was handed over to the Divisional Police Officer, Esa-Oke, for further investigation and prosecution after he had confessed to the allegations.

“It was later learnt on Tuesday evening that the suspect had escaped from the police custody in Esa-Oke, but he was later rearrested in Esa-Odo on Wednesday morning and handed over to the police,” Adeniji said. He then threatened that “the community will report the DPO to higher police authority if the suspect escapes from custody again”.
